The vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, spoke about the arrest of teenagers recruited by the right wing to generate violence in the country during the two days following the presidential elections. Some of these teenagers, who were detained for participating in the post-election riots, are already being released on bail and probation.
This Monday, September 2, during the weekly meeting of the PSUV National Directorate, Cabello said that the parents of these minors are responsible for the actions of their children. They even claim that they did not know far-right groups had secretly contacted their children to commit these violent acts.
“What do many parents say? That they didn’t know that they [their children] were contacted in secret. Who [did it]? The fascism of María Corina Machado,” he said at the press conference.
The PSUV leader also clarified that no nongovernmental organization (NGO) had anything to do with the release of the teenagers.
On the contrary, he said that the Venezuelan State is acting consciously. However, he added that investigations are ongoing because some of the detained minors “had traces of gunpowder on their hands.”
“There is an ongoing investigation. There are minors who have traces of gunpowder on their hands, and there are people who died at the place where the young man was arrested. That is why there are investigations,” Diosdado Cabello said.
Cabello, also the newly-appointed Minister for Interior, Justice and Peace, said that the Venezuelan State does not persecute or kidnap anyone. This was contrasted to what happens in the United States, where they have camps for migrant children after separating them from their parents.
Cabello added that, for the Venezuelan government, children are untouchable and that they love them with all their souls. That is why the authorities are there to ensure a country at peace, without fascism or hatred.

In this context, Cabello denounced far-right representative María Corina Machado’s recruitment of children to participate in the riots and subsequent blaming of the government for their arrests.
He criticized the far-right for pushing children and young people to death “because they are not their children” but the children of others, so they led them to death.
“Mrs. María Corina Machado is a fascist. She is a murderer of children, she leads them to death, she doesn’t care about anything. Meanwhile, her children are living like little kings in the United States,” he added.
