The foreign minister of Venezuela, Yván Gil, shared a statement on social media in which the Venezuelan government expressed its solidarity with Nicaragua and stood firm against the renewal of US executive order 13851 and other interventionist strategies of the US against the free peoples of the continent.
The message was posted this Monday, November 25, after the White House announced last Friday, through a press release, that I would renew this imperialist measure that has been labeled by United Nations experts as illegal and criminal.
In the message, the foreign minister stated that Venezuela “rejects the renewal of the infamous executive order that describes that sister nation as an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, thus justifying the illegal coercive measures against the Nicaraguan people.”
Venezuela is subjected to a similar executive order passed by the Obama administration in 2015. This executive order serves as the internal “legal base” to launch a battery of sanctions against socialist and independent projects that are not submissive to US imperialism.
The full unofficial translation of the statement is below:
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its solidarity with the people and government of the Republic of Nicaragua and rejects the renewal of the infamous executive order that describes that sister nation as an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States, thus justifying the illegal coercive measures against the Nicaraguan people.
It is unacceptable that the country that historically invaded Sandino’s homeland with its troops, that supported the bloody dictatorship of Somoza and that fueled the violence of the Contras, should try to accuse the people and the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of being a threat. With this executive order, the United States once again shows its contempt for international law and its insatiable thirst to destabilize governments that defend their sovereignty and dignity. Under this pretext, it subjects the Nicaraguan people to criminal measures and covers its imperialist interventionism with impunity.
The people and government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela reiterate their unrestricted support and solidarity with our fellow President and Commander Daniel Ortega and our fellow Vice President Rosario Murillo and add their voice to the worldwide condemnation of this renewed aggression, with the conviction that the people of Carlos Fonseca and Rubén Darío will continue to walk firmly along the path of development and national peace.
