On behalf of the Venezuelan government, Foreign Affairs Minister Yván Gil offered a message of support and guarantee of security to the diplomatic representatives of Spain, France, Colombia, and the United Nations (UN). This comes as a result of the revelation of a terrorist plot by the Venezuelan far right to sabotage the regional and parliamentary elections of May 25. In recent days, plans were uncovered that aimed at attacking foreign embassies and the UN office in the country, with the objective of generating anxiety and destabilization.
During a meeting with foreign diplomats on Friday, May 30, Gil assured them of their security amid any act of violence by extremist sectors of the right wing.
Venezuelan Police Arrest US DEA Agent Plotting False Flag Operations
On May 18, a group of Venezuelans was arrested with explosives. They were planning attacks against embassies, public personalities, health centers, and public services, as reported by Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello.
According to Cabello, the mercenaries have links with the far-right politician MarĂa Corina Machado and other members of the opposition. “The intention behind these acts was to create a narrative of instability and ungovernability to discredit the electoral process in the eyes of the international community,” he explained.
He further reported that weapons, ammunition, money, cell phones, laptops, and other logistical equipment were seized from the terrorists.
