Venezuelans participated in the second National Popular Consultation on Sunday, August 25. The National Electoral Commission, the body in charge of the consultation, called on all Venezuelans over 15 years of age to participate and vote in these communal elections to select the communal projects that will be prioritized to receive state financial support.
“All Venezuelans aged 15 and over are invited to participate,” said Ana María Cabrera, a member of the commission and spokesperson for the Unidos por el Gigante Commune in Miranda State, at a press conference at the Ministry for Communes and Social Movements.
A community leader from Sarria told Venezolana de Televisión (VTV), “The only requirement needed to participate is an identity card. Anyone over 15 years of age can vote.”
She pointed out that through the Bolivarian Revolution, progress is being made in organizing the people to resolve community problems. “When Commander Hugo Chávez called us to make a Revolution, it was not easy. But, over the years, there is a commitment to work that President Nicolás Maduro continues to follow,” she added.
President Maduro recently stated that the popular consultation is a direct, popular, free and secret election to be held throughout 4,505 communal circuits of the country.
Consultation update
The National Electoral Commission presented a summary of the voting process on Sunday afternoon. The summary mentioned that there are more than 100 international observers deployed throughout the country to monitor the electoral process, reported Últimas Noticias.

During the presentation of the bulletin, Carolina Arellano, head of the commission, said, “At this time, voting stations in 90% of the 4,505 circuits are active. There have been some incidents due to the rain, in many states it is raining and it has become a bit difficult not so much to open the centers but to continue the process.”
According to the report, 30,784 projects were finally registered for this consultation, including proposals on the issues of water and electricity. The commission thanked the national, regional, municipal, and communal promotional teams deployed for the electoral process as well as those who participated in the consultation.
Arellano added, “I would also like to thank the National Electoral Council, Plan República, the militias, and our president, Nicolás Maduro, for their support, because today we are in this second consultation demonstrating with facts, with the participation that the Venezuelan people are accustomed to, how elections are held in our country.”
She added that voting will continue until there was nobody in line to exercise their right to vote.
