On Friday, Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Minister Yván Gil expressed his country’s gratitude to Russia for its stance in defense of Venezuela’s sovereignty in the face of the United States military escalations in the Caribbean Sea.
On social media, Foreign Minister Gil emphasized that “on behalf of President Nicolás Maduro, we express our most sincere gratitude to the government of Russia for its unwavering support in the defense of our sovereignty.”
He also reiterated that Moscow and Caracas are consolidating their position as strategic allies, “and we are ready to strengthen our cooperation in key areas of development and mutual progress.”
On Thursday, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, said that Moscow is prepared to respond to Caracas’ requests in accordance with the bilateral association agreement amid the unprecedented US military escalation off its coasts.
Russia Ready to Assist Venezuela in Response to Intervention Threats
Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reiterated that any action regarding Venezuela must respect international law: “Venezuela is a sovereign state and, in any case, we start from the premise that everything that happens regarding Venezuela must be done in accordance with the spirit and the letter of international law.”
