Venezuelan Foreign Affairs Vice Minister for Latin America Rander Peña debated the structural causes that drive Venezuelan migration.
During the Fifth Plenary Meeting of the South American Conference on Migration and the Regional Conference on Migration from Venezuela, Peña called to address the structural causes that drive migration.
The Foreign Ministry official said that in the case of Venezuela, US sanctions are the main factor behind Venezuelan migration.
He explained that these illegal US unilateral coercive measures affect the Venezuelan economy and reiterated the request for their cessation.
“Any discussion on migration must necessarily include the regional demand for the immediate and unconditional lifting of these measures,” the deputy minister said.
Peña said it is necessary to take action to counteract the negative consequences of migration, such as the commodification of migrants and the increase in human trafficking.
In this regard, he remarked on the importance of implementing policies that protect the rights of migrants and stop these practices.
“It is essential to address the structural causes of migration if we want sustainable solutions,” he said.
He also recalled that Venezuela has a long history of receiving migrants and is committed to sharing its successful practices and experiences in this area.
On the other hand, he announced that Venezuela is working on all the activities that were planned during the last World Congress against Fascism, Neofascism, and Similar Expressions.
“Venezuela is a convener of spaces for reflection and action that are relevant in these times,” he added.
Rander Peña also reported that plans are being made for the World Youth Congress against Fascism, which will take place from November 20 to 23.
