A ship from the Bolivarian National Navy of Venezuela arrived in Cuba with more than 300 tons of humanitarian aid to address the damage caused by the passage of hurricanes Rafael and Oscar through the Caribbean island.
The Venezuelan vessel arrived on Sunday, November 10, at the port of Santiago de Cuba, where Cuban authorities and the Venezuelan ambassador to the Caribbean nation, Orlando Maneiro Gaspar, were present.
Maneiro Gaspar said that Cuba suffered significant damage as a result of two major weather events.
“Brothers see each other, brothers express themselves, brothers reach out to each other, help each other,” said the Venezuelan ambassador. “Cuba has always been the best example of solidarity in the world, and today, Venezuela supports it.”

The humanitarian aid sent by Venezuela to Cuba left on November 6 from Puerto Cabello, Carabobo state. Among other items, it includes 2,500 4H kitchen units and 10,000 single and double mattresses, 10,000 galvanized zinc sheets, 20,000 iron pipes, and ceiling hooks and personal hygiene kits.
President Nicolás Maduro announced last Wednesday that Venezuela would send 43 containers, with various items, for social and humanitarian support to the Republic of Cuba.
Venezuela Sends Humanitarian Aid to Assist Cuba After Hurricanes
In less than a month, Cuba has experienced two hurricanes, the first being Oscar, which was particularly destructive in the east of the island and left eight dead in Guantanamo.
The second, Rafael, hit the western region last week, wreaking havoc on the national electrical system and generating prolonged blackouts.
Additionally, this Sunday, two earthquakes of magnitude 5.9 and another of 6.8 shook the island, causing landslides and damage to homes and the electrical system in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Granma.
