Venezuela’s Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) will summon representatives of TikTok Latin America for disseminating content that attacks children and young people. In the 68th edition of his program Con Maduro+, President Maduro specified that the case will be a face-to-face hearing, after the regrettable losses of young people who were incited to perform viral challenges that put their lives at risk, causing the death of three children.
“TikTok Latin America has sent a letter in response; for the first time, we have established a relationship,” said the president. “This must end. If TikTok does not assume [responsibility], we will take the pertinent measures in favor of the safety of young people. Rest assured that what the Supreme Court of Justice determines will be severely applied.”

Likewise, President Maduro affirmed that “he will not hesitate” to implement the decision issued by the TSJ in relation to the social media network in Venezuela.
Previously, the TSJ accepted a lawsuit against the dangerous challenges promoted by TikTok in Venezuela, and the president accused the digital platform for responsibility in the deaths of three minors. “It is your responsibility, TikTok,” said the president. “The death of these children will haunt you to the grave, and you will have to answer to the families of these three children sooner rather than later because you have committed a crime. You censor other content and accounts in Venezuela, but you promote the worst.”
In addition, the president guaranteed that in Venezuela there will be order and justice in this case. The Venezuelan National Assembly will promote a law to regulate social networks.
In this line, the head of state recalled: “There is already a debate in the entire world about the use of social media networks to manipulate public opinion on various issues, in directions. The worst manipulation is the influence on boys and girls.”
