Venezuela’s ambassador to the United Nations (UN), Samuel Moncada, repudiated the statements of Carl Greenidge, Guyana’s representative before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), in the case of the controversy with Venezuela over the Essequibo territory. Moncada referred to Greenidge’s statement as a “mistaken, dangerous, servile strategy which threatens peace between Venezuela and Guyana and the complete peace of the region.”
This Tuesday, January 14, Moncada, who is the Venezuelan representative before the ICJ for this case, accused Greenidge of wanting a puppet government in Venezuela, imposed by imperialist powers (the United States and the British), so that Venezuela would hand over the disputed territory. He described the statements of the Guyanese agent as “scandalous, absolutely out of place” and as “a false step that reveals something much more serious than the Essequibo issue.”
The Venezuelan diplomat pointed out that Greenidge dedicated himself to questioning the legality of the Venezuelan government and not the issue of the controversy. âWhat he is doing is repeating what he did in 2019, when, with the Lima Group, Guyana joined the United States’ strategy to overthrow the government of President NicolĂĄs Maduro and impose a puppet on Venezuela, which would hand over the entire territory of Venezuela and that of Essequibo to Guyana and the United States,â Moncada said.
He also said that just as he did in 2019, Mr. Greenidge âthinks that a wave against Venezuela is coming, and he is going to ride that wave, together with the United States, because he is paid by that government and the ExxonMobil oil corporation, which is paying for the [Guyanese] case before the International Court of Justice, and he now says that we must defend ourselves against that illegal government with its international allies.â
