Caracas (OrinocoTribune.com)—The vice president of Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE), Carlos Quintero, announced the results for Indigenous municipal council member elections on Sunday night. With 98.55% of positions cast and 92.97% of spokespersons participating, 68 of 69 positions have irreversible results.
Breakdown of Indigenous council seats
• Guaicaipuro Chair: 40 seats (58.82%)
• National Indian Council of Venezuela (Conive): 15 seats (22.06%)
• Foundation for the Training, Integration, and Dignity of Indigenous Peoples (Fundacidi): eight seats (11.73%)
• Kalaiira: four seats (5.88%)
• Federation of Indigenous Peoples of BolĂvar State (Fieb): one seat (1.47%)
Quintero emphasized that the elections represent a constitutional democratic exercise ensuring political participation for ancestral peoples. He confirmed results would be certified Monday, August 4, calling the process a “lesson in civics” demonstrating Venezuela’s peaceful progress.
The CNE reaffirmed its constitutional commitment, thanking the National Logistics Committee and Bolivarian National Armed Force (FANB) for ensuring an “impeccable” electoral process.
“The CNE, as guarantor of the popular will, reaffirms its commitment to the Constitution, the people, and its increasingly strong and transparent electoral system,” Quintero stated.
Official list of elected council members released
The CNE published the official list of 69 elected Indigenous council members on Monday, August 4. The list only provides names, municipality location, and political organization without providing total vote figures.
In a social media post, the CNE instructed winning candidates to appear at their Municipal Electoral Boards for certification at 10 a.m. Monday, August 4. The CNE stressed “timely attendance is essential to begin awarding, proclaiming, and accrediting positions under current electoral regulations.”

Venezuelan democracy strengthened
Indigenous Peoples Minister Clara Vidal declared Venezuelan democracy unique due to Indigenous empowerment, noting 26 years of consolidated participatory policies.
Vidal highlighted Indigenous communities as “protagonists” in electing municipal council members: “We are an example of dignity, visibility, and political participation. We are protagonists in electing 138 council members.”
The elections occurred across 69 municipalities in eight states with Indigenous populations: Delta Amacuro, Sucre, Apure, Amazonas, BolĂvar, Zulia, Monagas and Anzoátegui.
