Urgent message from the Wet’suwet’en Access Point on Gitdumt’en Territory

January 17, 2019

By Unist’ot’en Solidarity Brigade

RCMP have invaded and occupied our territory and are working to establish a police detachment on Gidumt’en territory without the consent of our people.

Our chiefs have entered into an agreement with the RCMP, under the threat of further police violence, to allow CGL to temporarily work within Wet’suwet’en territories until the interlocutory injunction is heard.

That agreement, which dictates that all police exclusion zones will be lifted immediately and that our members will have free access to our territories, has already been violated by the RCMP.

Our Elder Rita David of the Gidumt’en Clan is interviewed here, connecting today’s violence with the forced displacement of Wet’suwet’en people over the last 200 years.

The invasion will not be tolerated. All eyes on Wet’suwet’en Yintah.

We call on all supporters of Indigenous Rights and Climate Justice to immediately contact the political leaders of Canada and the province of British Columbia. Demand they instruct the RCMP to stand down to allow for a peaceful and negotiated process of implementing Wet’suwet’en jurisdiction with regard to any type of development in their territory.

REINFORCEMENTS ARE  STILL NEEDED ON THE FRONT-LINE!

But….
It is standard practice for the RCMP to try to infiltrate agents and even provocateurs into movements they plan to suppress with force. It would be naïve to think they aren’t doing so in this situation.

We therefore prefer volunteers at this critical time to either have previous experience at the Unist’ot’en Camp or be able to provide references from one or more persons who have been to the Camp or are well known within the movement.

If  you meet that criteria and are physically fit for the hard work of supporting the camp and checkpoints (especially during the northern winter), prepared to commit at least two weeks or more and are prepared to work under the leadership and protocols of the Indigenous stewards of the Yintah then register HERE.

And thanks to those who stepped up with offers of transportation in response to our previous call-out. Vehicles are still needed so please register HERE.

Please note that given the situation with the RCMP described above we cannot guarantee access for volunteers. There may be unavoidable delays between your approval and the time when it is advisable to firm up travel plans.
