The presidents of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel; Bolivia, Luis Arce; and Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, expressed their support for the government of Venezuela in the face of the onslaught of imperialist powers during the 11th Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America–Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP).
President Díaz-Canel said that on behalf of the people of Cuba, “we reiterate the congratulations already expressed to the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, for the victory achieved in the elections of July 28.”
He said that at this time, “we are called by conscience and solidarity. We are aware of the grave danger that the unifying project that this alliance represents is in and also of the value of the statements of solidarity with sister Venezuela, leader of regional independence, which today faces a rude campaign of discredit, which seeks to mask another attempted coup d’état.”
He pointed out that “the parties cannot become arbiters of a dispute that involves them” and, for this reason, Cuba expresses admiration for “the calm response, the highly democratic and institutional sense and the vocation for peace of President Maduro in responding to these provocations supported by popular mobilizations and controversial funding.”
Díaz-Canel stressed that the Venezuelan people desire their sovereignty, peace, and victory in mobilizations: “even if these events are silenced, with biased reports by imperialist media.” Cuba reiterated its strongest condemnation of the systematic aggression against Venezuela and repudiated any type of violence.
For his part, the president of Bolivia, Luis Arce, said there is a dispute between “those who love freedom and independence for all and those who want to maintain the mechanisms of domination. Currently, fascist tendencies are a reality.”
“Given this, it is necessary to strengthen unity to maintain sovereign integration. It is essential to work on differences by promoting unity in diversity and respecting the self-determination of peoples, their territorial integrity, and peacefully resolving their disputes,” said Arce.
Imperialism is willing to regain hegemony over the space it considers its backyard, warned the Bolivian president.
Meanwhile, the president of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, said that fascism is resurfacing and that fascism has been incubating since the origins of humanity. Fascism was institutionalized when Europe took over the African continent. The dominant European powers were contained by the resistance of the Liberator, Simon Bolivar, who appealed to the unity of the peoples. Ortega noted that the imperialist powers want to dominate the world in the name of democracy.
Ortega said that the dominant military economic interests promote fascist practices to make that domination a reality; among the powers, they agree on the most horrendous crimes.
Imperialism applies economic aggressions “with what they call sanctions that are nothing more than aggressions that they have applied to Cuba, and that they apply to Venezuela, and to Nicaragua, and they apply it to the peoples of the Caribbean,” continued Ortega.
He affirmed that the United States seeks to liquidate the Revolution: “The Bolivarian Revolution is the bomb that makes the empire tremble, with a force, with a power. In the past, it was thought that with the guerrillas in Venezuela, a great victory would occur, but with the ingenuity and vision of Commander Chavez, it became a reality when they went with the electoral route. It has no precedent in Latin America. The revolution triumphed in Venezuela… The people, the peasants are with Nicolas Maduro.” The Nicaraguan leader said that “there is no way to defeat the legitimate president,” and assured that fascism will be defeated because thousands will join in the defense of the Bolivarian Revolution.
