A total of 261 Venezuelans arrived in Venezuela from Mexico on the first flight of the Great Mission Return to the Homeland, as reported by Venezuela’s Foreign Minister Yván Gil.
The Return to the Homeland program was recently elevated by President Nicolas Maduro to the category of “great mission.” In addition, President Maduro announced the creation of a new deputy ministry in the Venezuelan Ministry for Foreign Affairs dedicated to the issues of Venezuelan migrants.
This Tuesday, July 16, minister Gil welcomed the returning Venezuelans with government officials such as the recently appointed vice minister for comprehensive assistance to Venezuelan Migration, Pedro Sassone, and the director of the Administrative Service of Identification, Migration, and Immigration (SAIME), Gustavo VizcaÃno.
During the reception of the flight, Minister Gil expressed his satisfaction at seeing the Venezuelans returning to their country. He also highlighted the work of the airline Conviasa in facilitating the return of citizens.

He noted that many of his compatriots had fallen into the trap of false promises of improvement abroad, but in the end they realized that their true future was in Venezuela.
“These compatriots had migrated as a result of the false hopes that were sold to them that they could achieve a better future outside the country,” stated Gil. “After attacking our economy, attacking the Venezuelan productive process, and applying more than 900 sanctions against us, they came face to face with reality and realized that their future is here.”
Yván Gil reiterated that Venezuela is in a process of economic, political, and social recovery in which hope guides Venezuelans.
He also stressed that Venezuelans who arrived from Mexico will be immediately included in the social protection system, the Patria System, and children and adolescents will be included in the national education system.
Finally, the Minister for Foreign Affairs mentioned that the Venezuelan government welcomes its fellow citizens with open arms, reaffirming its commitment to the well-being of all Venezuelans.

“We are taking them home to meet with their families, so that they can continue to contribute to the transformation of the country. Everyone is needed,” the minister added.
The Great Mission to Return to the Homeland was created by President Nicolás Maduro last June with the aim of providing more comprehensive coverage and facilitating the voluntary return of those who migrated due to the effects of illegal sanctions imposed against the country by the US government and the European Union.
