The Venezuelan National Assembly deputy from BolĂvar state, JosĂ© Manuel Muqueza, who was a member of the opposition Democratic Action (AD) party and was elected as a representative of the same party, has officially left the opposition bloc and joined the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV). He also announced his support for President NicolĂĄs Maduro in the upcoming presidential elections.
The parliamentarian had already announced his decision last week at a political event in Upata, in Piar municipality of BolĂvar state, where he appeared with PSUV leaders and expressed his support for the Bolivarian Revolution.
On that occasion, Muqueza received the support of Diosdado Cabello, first vice-president of the PSUV, who was accompanied by the vice president of Venezuela, Delcy RodrĂguez; the governor of BolĂvar state, Ăngel Marcano, the mayor of Piar municipality, Yulisbeth GarcĂa and other leaders of the regional PSUV leadership of BolĂvar.
Thereafter, on Tuesday, June 18, during the plenary session of the National Assembly, Deputy Muqueza sat with the deputies of the PSUV-led ruling coalition Block of the Homeland. There he made a speech announcing his departure from the AD, saying that “when the clarion call of the homeland is heard, even the cry of the mother is silent.”
He added that now it was his turn “to be on the side of BolĂvar, to be on the side of the homeland, to be on the side of the Venezuelan people.”
The president of the National Assembly, PSUV Deputy Jorge Rodriguez, welcomed Muqueza into the ranks of the PSUV.
“Welcome, dear deputy. We are grateful for your courage, for your dignity, for the strength of your convictions and for your certainty that we all have, in victory,” RodrĂguez said.
