Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab received Yorelys Bernal and Raida Inciarte, mother and grandmother respectively of the two-year old Venezuelan baby Maikelys Espinoza who was seized from her parents by the United States authorities and whose whereabouts are unknown.
At the meeting on Wednesday, April 30, Saab informed the public that two special attorneys were appointed to review the abduction of the two-year-old girl whose mother was deported to Venezuela while her father was illegally transferred to El Salvador.
“The Public Ministry has appointed two prosecutors, with specializations in the matter, to ensure that the girl be returned to our country and be with her mother, and that her father is also returned to Venezuela. We are taking necessary steps,” explained Saab.
“We have made a call to UNICEF,” he added. “We are making the necessary arrangements for the child to be received by UNICEF here in Caracas, which is the right thing to do.”
The attorney general explained that the prosecutors in charge will present an appeal for protection before the Social Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice “with the objective that our compatriot, this two year old baby, is returned.”
“It is a triple criminal action that the Public Ministry condemns before the world,” he said. “We call on UNICEF to take action in this matter, because this has no precedent in our country … We demand that the girl be unconditionally returned to our homeland and that her mother be able to raise her.”
