Venezuela Reiterates Its Support for the Palestinian Cause 72 Years After Al Nakba

May 15, 2020

This Friday, the government of Venezuela extended a greeting to the people and government of the state of Palestine on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of Al Nakba, reaffirmed its firm support for the Palestinian cause and condemnation of the alleged illegal annexation operations announced by the new Israeli coalition government. The pronouncement was disclosed through a communique published by Chancellor Jorge Arreaza, on his account twitter account.

“Venezuela once again expresses its firm support for the noble Palestinian cause, strongly condemns and rejects the alleged illegal annexation operations announced by the new Israeli coalition government to establish new Jewish settlements in the West Bank and the Jordan Valley, seeking to apply the illegal “Deal of the Century” promoted by the imperialism of the United States of America,” can be read in the document.

On May 14, 1948, the Israeli regime declared its illegal creation, for which it forced the departure of the Palestinians and seized their lands through violence and death. The crimes gave rise to Nakba Day (catastrophe), on May 15, according to Venezolana de Televisión.

Bellow the full text of the statement (OT translation):

“The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, on behalf of the Venezuelan people and government, sends a fraternal greeting to the people and government of the state of Palestine, on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of Al Nakba, date marking the beginning of ethnic cleansing and mass expulsion of Palestinians from their land by the occupying power of Israel in December 1947.

Venezuela once again expresses its firm support for the noble Palestinian cause, strongly condemns and rejects the alleged illegal annexation operations announced by the new Israeli coalition government to establish new Jewish settlements in the West Bank and in the Jordan Valley, seeking to apply the illegal “Deal of the Century” driven by the imperialism of the United States of America. Today, more than ever, Al Nakba is in force, as is the permanent struggle of the Palestinian people for the respect of their sovereignty, independence and self-determination.

Sooner than later, Palestine, with the majority determination of the member countries of the United Nations, will achieve recognition as a sovereign state, in accordance with international law and as established in UN resolutions that establish the creation of the Palestinian state in accordance to the borders validly established in 1967, having East Jerusalem as its capital. Only then will there be peace for all parties.”

Orinoco Tribune operates without any advertising. We are not funded by any governments, think tanks, or large institutions. Our operations are entirely funded by readers like you. Our most generous donors have been targeted by the US for supporting socialist causes or are financially struggling. As a result, their accounts have been frozen, cutting off a significant revenue stream and severely threatening the sustainability of Orinoco Tribune.

We urge our readers and supporters, especially those not currently doing so, to help us with small donation (such as US $5 or $10/month) via Patreon, via Paypal/Credit-Card/crypto or via paper checks. Readers and supporters like you will allow us to continue bringing you progressive and hard-hitting news from Latin America, the Global South, and the world.

Help us reach our goal of $650 in monthly Patreon donations. We are counting on you as our only source of financial support!
