All political parties with representation before the National Electoral Council and opposition governors were invited to participate in this dialogue table
On Tuesday, deputies to the National Assembly held a meeting with representatives of country’s various political parties before the National Electoral Council to discuss the electoral schedule for the year 2025.
Venezuela will hold at least nine elections this year, noted the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez.
There will be votes for the renewal of almost all the elected positions in the country, since their terms have expired or are about to expire. “This year, we are going to elect about 5,000 elected positions,” said Rodríguez. “In addition to this number, we must add the elections for the 267 deputies to the National Assembly, with their respective substitutes. We are going to renew almost all the elected positions.”
Rodríguez highlighted the broad participation of political organizations in this discussion regarding the electoral schedule.
“We have invited the political parties with representation in the National Electoral Council (CNE), and we have also invited the opposition state governors who were elected. The attendance was very strong…”
In this sense, the president of the Venezuelan parliament proposed that this working group be declared in permanent session so that, in a peremptory period, they can generate proposals to be submitted to the electoral commission.
Also, in order to advance more quickly, Rodríguez proposed that three working groups be created in order to evaluate issues related to the elections and the respective schedules for their development.
“The suggestion that I would like to make is that we establish proposals for electoral dates and schedules that allow the voter to become familiar with the electoral event itself,” said Rodríguez. “It is inconvenient if we postpone the elections…”
He also noted that the time in which elections must be called is brief; thus, he asked deputies and representatives of the parties to focus on proposing dates and electoral schedule projects, as well as establishing the order in which the votes are made.
