The Public Ministry (MP) of Venezuela summoned for the third time the former presidential candidate of the extreme right, Edmundo González Urrutia, to provide his statements on his alleged responsibility in several crimes.
González Urrutia has been summoned to the headquarters of the MP in Caracas on Friday at 10:00 a.m., to make statements for the alleged crimes of usurpation of functions, forging of public documents, instigation to disobedience of laws, cybercrimes, criminal association, and conspiracy.
Through a statement published on Thursday, August 29, the MP specified that if the former presidential candidate fails to attend the third summons, an arrest warrant will be issued against him “because he presents a risk of flight.”
“According to the Venezuelan laws, if said citizen does not appear at the Attorney General’s Office on the specified date, the respective arrest warrant will be issued considering that he presents a risk of flight, provided for in article 237, and the danger of obstruction of investigations, provided for in article 238 of the Organic Code of Criminal Procedure,” the statement reads.
Previously, the MP had stated that a person may be summoned up to three times as a subject under investigation to give a statement on an ongoing process.
Former Candidate Edmundo González Fails to Comply With 2nd Summons by Public Ministry
Edmundo González Urrutia was supposed to attend the Public Ministry last Monday, when the first summons was scheduled, however, he did not comply with it. Then, a second summons was issued for Tuesday, which he did not attend either.
His non-compliance with Venezuelan institutions is not something new. The politician also did not comply with the summons issued by the Electoral Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ), in which he was supposed to present the voting records allegedly in his party’s possession.
The MP is carrying out an investigation against the extreme right-wing politician for the publication of alleged voting records on the web page resultadosconvzla.com, because it constitutes a usurpation of functions of the National Electoral Council (CNE).
The criminal investigation is ongoing against those responsible for the publication and maintenance of the web page, since such false information generates anxiety and the possibility of violence.
