The National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela carried out the audit of the voting software for the upcoming presidential elections, as stipulated in the electoral schedule.
The audit, carried out on Thursday, June 27, is part of the total of 16 voting machine and technical audits that will be carried out before the July 28 elections in order to review the hardware, software and data recording of the voting machines, the review of the source code, as well as tests on the troubleshooting mechanisms to verify the operability of the machines. Audits will also be done for the electoral drill scheduled for Sunday, June 30.
Thursday’s audit confirmed that the biometric system of the voting software can block any attempt of systematic or massive identity theft, which guarantees that the identity of voters will not be stolen by third parties.
Technicians accredited by all political parties participating in the presidential elections will be present at each of the audits.
Earlier, on June 25, the CNE carried out the audit of the voter’s fingerprint file. “Excepting the states of Apure, Amazonas and Delta Amacuro, the coverage of the fingerprint file (voters with fingerprints registered in the system) is higher than 95%,” the CNE reported in a statement after that audit.
“The entities with the highest number of voters with registered fingerprints are La Guaira and the Capital District (Caracas). In both cases, the coverage reaches 98%,” the statement added.
According to the auditors, 50.18% of the registered voters have fingerprint files of excellent quality, 16% of very good quality, and 19% of good quality. “The files that may generate more problems for identification on July 28 are those of bad quality (12% of registered voters) and poor quality (1.2%),” the CNE stated.
