President Maduro Reiterates Suspension of International Flights Except to These Countries
Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro reiterated this Sunday that international flights in the country remain closed with the exception of routes to Mexico, Bolivia and Turkey.
This was expressed during a working meeting to report on the fight against COVID-19, in the context of the happy and safe Christmas plan.

The head of state indicated that this decision was made due to the increase in positive cases of coronavirus that have arrived in the country from abroad.
“Many cases have come from abroad, on flights that have come from abroad, so we restricted flights and only kept open Mexico for the entire Caribbean and Central America, Turkey for the world, and Bolivia for South America,” he said.
The president also stressed that the people who arrive from these nations are subjected to strict health controls to contain the spread of COVID-19.
In recent days several airlines have announced suspension of flights due to decisions taken by the Venezuelan aeronautical agency, INAC. Several flights coming from Dominican Republic were singled out for bringing several positive cases a few days ago, and analysts suspected that a restriction taken on flights to and from Panama was related to the same issue, as this was suggested by President Maduro.
In contrast with many countries, Venezuelan authorities have taken COVID-19 seriously, which explains the Bolivarian Republic’s relatively low numbers of per capita infections and deaths.
