The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has issued a strong warning to former far-right Venezuelan presidential candidate Edmundo González, who made calls for violence among his supporters with the statement, “when you are afraid, you don’t go to war.”
“Now he is calling for a war in Venezuela,” said the Venezuelan president this Wednesday, December 11, at an event promoting the election of communal justices of peace, which will take place on December 15. “Old man, be careful what you say from there, it has serious consequences, you hear? Be careful with your words, don’t make mistakes with the people of Venezuela.”

“Don’t play with fire, respect Venezuela,” President Maduro added. “You are violating the agreement you signed, you are violating the terms of your asylum in Spain. Stop calling for a civil war in Venezuela!”
The Venezuelan president guaranteed that there will be no war or violence in the country, despite the dreams of the far-right sponsored by the White House and the EU. He stated that come January 10, 2025, the day of his inauguration following his victorious re-election as president, there will be people mobilized in the streets promoting peace and harmony.
The Venezuelan president recalled that González left the country after a negotiation, which included the signing of a letter, shown to the country in September. González had accepted the results of the elections of July 28 and the sentence of the Supreme Court of Justice ratifying the results, and promised not to hold any positions in the Venezuelan public powers. He promised to defend peace, and to maintain prudence, moderation, and respect in his public actions.
González later made spurious claims that he was somehow coerced into signing the letter, prompting Jorge Rodríguez, president of the National Assembly, to publish audio recordings of the meeting proving that the negotiations were held fairly and ordinarily.

Borrell statements
The former EU high representative for foreign affairs, Josep Borrell, stated this Tuesday, December 10, that the EU cannot recognize Edmundo González as “president of Venezuela.”
According to statements made by Borrell during a meeting of the New Economy Forum in Madrid, their decision to avoid the issue is due to the fact that the choice lies solely with the member states that make up the Union. “The recognition of a person as president of Venezuela is not a power of the European Union,” he explained. “Each state makes its own decision in this regard.”
“Venezuela is a state and we recognize it as such, whether we like the government it has or not,” he later said, as reported by RedRadioVE.
