This Friday the United States Department of the Treasury applied what they call “sanctions” against the state airline Conviasa and its fleet of aircrafts, as part of the unilateral coercive measures that the Trump administration applies against Venezuela as part of its attempts to force the exit of Nicolás Maduro from the presidency of the republic.
The aircrafts added to the list of the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), according to the official website of the Department of the Treasury , includes at least 40 belonging to the Venezuelan state company.

“Maduro’s illegitimate regime depends on Venezuelan state airline Conviasa to move corrupt regime officials around the world to boost support for its anti-democratic efforts,” said US Treasury Secretary Steven T. Mnuchin.
The action also identifies the fleet of Conviasa aircraft as a locked property of the government of Venezuela in accordance with EO 13884. Conviasa and its fleet have been blocked since the issuance of EO 13884 of August 5, 2019, and “today have been added to the list of specially designated nationals of OFAC to ensure greater compliance with the US sanctions, ” reads a press release on the website of the US agency .
